It's been awhile since pictures have been posted, however you're finally able to view some work below!

Pending administration approval, the FRHS Art Club will be going on their annual field trip to a local art museum during a school day. This year, students will have the opportunity to visit the Fort Wayne Museum of Art in Fort Wayne, Indiana. As of right now, the field trip is set for Thursday, May 8th and will cost $4 for each student to attend. Students will also need to bring money for lunch, as we will eat together after our museum visit.
This field trip is for paid Art Club members for the 2013-2014 school year, which currently includes 108 students. Art Club members are encouraged to attend this field trip, however participation is NOT mandatory. Permission forms and more information will be made available later this week. Please check back for details. PARENTS: PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN CHAPERONING! YOU'RE ADMISSION COST AND LUNCH WILL BE COVERED! Parents of Design Students,
By this point, I've hope you've been able to receive a permission form for students to begin work on their stained glass projects. On this form, I'm asking that you give your consent for students to participate in creating a stained glass piece of artwork. I ask for this consent as students will be hand-cutting glass themselves as they work on their assignment over the next 3-4 weeks (possibly until the end of the school year). This process, if not done carefully and with caution, can cause students to cut themselves as we are working with sheets of glass and cutting them, by hand, into small pieces. The parental consent form was sent home last Monday, April 21, and I asked that these be returned by Friday, April 25. I have still not received about half of the consent forms. On this form, you'll also see that students need to bring in their own 8"x10" glass frame or bring in $6 so I can purchase frames for them. As always, please contact me should you have any questions! The parental consent form is attached with this post. Studio Art students have been working hard on their square-on-square colored pencil drawings, which are due TOMORROW (Friday, April 4). This due date was set three weeks ago, and has been in the grade book online and posted on the classroom board for the past three weeks. Look for grades to go in sometime early next week.
Art Design students are working on a choice project - which they must also submit a lesson plan-type writing assignment, explaining how they chose their work, materials and projects as well as how things were created (in a step-by-step method). Students must also come up with a handout of sorts that could eventually be given to students who may choose to create a similar project in the future. The purpose of these writing assignments is to allow students another outlet to explain their artwork and the processes behind it. This also forces students to think about their own though processes. Art Design projects are due Wednesday, April 9 and are worth 200 points, which will be close to half of the nine weeks grade! The project itself will be based off of a 100-point art project and two 50-point writing assessments. Below, you can find handouts on the choice project, as well as a SAMPLE lesson plan and a SAMPLE handout. Students are not required to complete steps B and D of the lesson plan. It's been awhile since I've posted, but with the OGTs, various projects going on and a newly announced pregnancy, I'm a little behind (my apologies).
I thought I would post some pictures of some finished projects from the Studio Art classes. These classes are mainly sophomore students, with a two or three juniors and seniors thrown in here and there. Enjoy! Grades are going in today and tomorrow for Studio Art house drawing projects, as well as for mask sketches and the "Critiquing Artwork" worksheet. Art Design students should start seeing grades for the alphabet photography projects, the abstract letter paintings and the colored pencil practice sheets.
Don't forget, the end of the nine weeks is QUICKLY approaching, which means you have a few days to make or break your grades with missing assignments and work ethic grades. OGT tests are also coming up, the week of March 10. The following are the Ohio Fine Arts Standards that will be used in the creation of our new projects.

So, today will be an attempt to better post what's going on in art classes on a daily basis (or so I hope!).
Today in class, we had a number of new things going on! Studio Art students began working in the clay medium with their "Identity Mask Sculptures," and will continue to work on these new creations for at least two weeks. This is a new project this year, and they're learning this new process as much as I am. It's hard to believe that once their clay has been fired, students will be able to use colored pencils to actually color their masks instead of using the tedious glaze process. Pictures will be posted as the days go along. Students can find the materials needed for this project, such as handouts and worksheets, in the "Student Stuff" section of this blog. Art Design students also began a new project today, which involves realistic drawing in the colored pencil medium. Today, students were given a practice packet to begin the process of learning how to blend and shade with colored pencils - which is NOT an easy task! Students will be choosing a word or phrase of their choice (with a minimum of seven letters), drawing that word three-dimensionally with a textual eye, and will be realistically illustrating what that word means inside of their letters. Again, pictures are to come and handouts and materials can be found in the "Student Stuff" section of this website. Hopefully the weather is nice to us over night! The last thing we need is more time out of school. Who knows, we may have our first five-day week in months this week (fingers crossed). Keep creating! The second semester has finally arrived, and students in Studio Art classes are working on realistic house drawing using the mathematical grid-drawing format. Check out how some of the students are coming along!
Students...don't forget, you're E-Days are due next Tuesday and Wednesday. We don't have school Monday, so don't wait until the last minute. You can find the E-Day lessons for art class under the tab titled, "E-Day" on this website.
Be sure to check the school's webpage, www.fortrecoveryschools.org to find your E-Day lessons for other classes. Click on "Parents and Students," then find the E-Day portal on the right-hand side of the page. As always, make sure you keep in contact with your teachers regarding these assignments. If you have questions about art lessons, email Mrs. Sudhoff or contact her via the class Twitter account, @FRHSArt Have a great weekend. I won't see you tomorrow as I'm heading to a state softball coaches clinic. Stay safe this weekend...and let's |
