FYI: I've had a LOT of kids asking about extra credit. Bringing in 10 newspapers will bump a student's grade 2.38% points, which in many cases is the different between a "-" and a solid letter grade.
All Studio Art students should have their zentangle drawings and sketch sheets turned in by this Friday, unless they've talked to me! All Painting students should have their value portrait paintings finished by this Friday as well, again, unless they've talked to me. Yearbook sales are in full swing through this Friday as well. AFTER this Friday, October 25, the price of the yearbook will rise to $48 instead of $45. Get yours while it's still on sale for $45! ART CLUB DUES ARE DUE BY THIS FRIDAY, AS WELL. (Friday seems to be quite the popular date!) Your $3.

Parents, don't forget this Friday is the end of the first nine weeks, which means this week can make or break your student's grade. In my class, I am offering a few extra credit opportunities for the end of the first nine weeks.
Students are able to earn extra credit simply by bringing in newspapers. The more newspapers they bring in, the more extra credit they can receive. Students can earn up to 10 extra credit points, which can change a grade from an A- to an A very easily! Students also have the opportunity to answer questions on our class Twitter page to earn extra credit, as well. There will be questions posted throughout the week that students can answer for extra credit. Here's the catch...answers must be in complete sentences! Your child doesn't have Twitter? That's okay! Those students who do not have Twitter can ask me what the question is and answer the old-fashioned way...writing the answer on paper! Those students must come ask me for the qusest Parents and students, don't forget, the end of the first nine weeks is NEXT FRIDAY, October 25 already! This and next week are the students' last opportunities to raise their grades before grades are due for report cards. Students have the opportunity to ear 25 points per week (5 points per day) simply by working in class the entire period each day, cleaning up, and working hard. Many students lose a few points here and there for not working the entire period, working on other work for other classes, being on the computer, and cleaning up too early. These are critical points these last two weeks, as grades can and will be effected by work ethic points!
On the plus side of things, painting students really have a good jump on their value portrait paintings. Check out what they've been working on in class so far this week! Check out this week's editions to the Wall of Fame and the 100 Club! Congratulations to Jessica Siefring, Taylor Siegrist, Kasey Vogel, Cori Stone, Leah Kunk, Veronica Wood, Nikki Nietfeld and Katie Stammen for becoming members of the 100 Club with their Optical Illusion and Quilt Pattern paintings projects. Their names were placed on the 100 Club board in the art room, and their works is hanging on the Wall of Fame in the Art Room and in the hallway outside the main office at the high school! It's official, all of our optical illusion paintings and quilt square pattern paintings have been finalized and are in the books (literally...check Progress Book!). Yesterday, I posted some pictures of first and sixth period, so today, check out eighth period's work!
Check out some pictures of the Studio Art Optical Illusion Paintings below. These paintings are ALL the students from first and sixth period Studio Art classes!
Today, students continued working on their zentangle and value portrait projects. This week, check Progress Book frequently, as grades for the first projects will be going in, and grades will be back up to date!
Today, Studio Art students got a good jump start on their zentangle projects. Many students finished the sketching process and starting the actual project today! We will be working on these for the next week or two. Tomorrow or later this evening, I will be posting pictures of the former studio art project, the optical illusion paintings, so check back to see some student work! In the mean time, here are some Studio Art kids working during sixth period today! Painting students were continuing to work on their value portrait paintings in class today, as well. As you can tell, there's a LOT of artwork going on in the art room this week! Surprisingly, it's pretty quiet in class, too. Check out some of our painting students working in class today!
Okay, I know...I've been slacking in the blog department. However, it's been a crazy week with school being cancelled on Monday due to fog, spirit week, and being in charge of the homecoming festivities this year. I promise, the art students really are working! Today, the Studio Art kids continued working on the beginning phases of their zentangle projects. For information on what the heck a zentangle is, check out previous blog postings and the "Student Stuff" section of our website. Painting students have been working hard on a multimedia project that they will eventually be painting. They are taking a photograph, using Adobe Photoshop to enhance and "comicize" it, and will then paint it using a five-color value scale. Check out Ashley, who's working hard getting her's drawn! On another note, tomorrow is the last day of spirit week, as we do not have school on Friday. Tomorrow's dress up day is American pride, so make sure you sport your red, white and blue!
Homecoming tickets have been on sale all week and are $5 in purchased in advance. If purchased at the door, tickets are $7. Get yours now while they're only $5! See any sophomore class officer or Miss Everman for tickets! Today in class, both Studio Art and Painting students began new project. Find the information below for what's going on in each of the two classes. Studio Art Today, students learned about zentangles. According to zentangle.com, The Zentangle Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. Almost anyone can use it to create beautiful images. It increases focus and creativity, provides artistic satisfaction along with an increased sense of personal well being. The Zentangle Method is enjoyed all over this world across a wide range of skills, interests and ages. Students viewed two videos in class, one just to show an example of a patterned zentangle which started from a flower, and the other to show how to create a complete zentangle drawing simply by tracing your hand to start. Both videos can be viewed here... Students were also given a sketch sheet to start designing their own zentangle patterns, which they will be working on for the next few days, until they are ready to begin the project, itself.
Painting Painting students also began a new project today, which we are calling Value Portraits. Students will be able to choose a photograph or image of their choice for this project. Once they have chosen an image, students will use the Adobe Photoshop program to render and distort their image so that it is black and white and has only five solid color values. Once this is done, students will save their image, and recreate in by drawing it in a much larger scale onto canvas board. Once this is complete, students will paint their value portraits with a valued color of their choice - typically black and white, but they can choose whichever color they would like. Most students will choose to create a painting of a famous athlete, musician, or actor, however some will choose to do their own photos of family, friends or even themselves. The choice is up to each individual student. Below are some examples of similar value portrait paintings that have been completed by others. Can you believe next week is Homecoming week here at FR again? That being said, the cheerleaders will once again be hosting "Spirit Week" during homecoming.
The dress-up days are as follows: Monday - Pajama Day Tuesday - Neon Colors Day Wednesday - Cowboys & Indians Day Thursday - America Day ALL OUTFITS MUST BE SCHOOL APPROPRIATE, AND COMPLY WITH OUR SCHOOL'S DRESS CODE POLICY! Spirit Week this year will once again feature a competition between the classes. This year, participation points will be collected during 4TH PERIOD. The 4th period class with the most participation will receive a prize from the cheerleaders! Check out some interesting information on school spirit below, and why it truly is important! Find the below article in further detail here: First of all What is School Spirit? Before we can understand the importance of school spirit, we must first try to define school spirit. (Keep in mind that "try" is the operative word). School spirit is not something you can easily define. That's because school spirit consists of a vast number of things. School spirit is the feeling you get as you step into the stadium for your school's homecoming football game. School spirit is, [you] proudly wearing the personalized shirt you received during your high school spirit week. School spirit is volunteering for the yearbook committee, and the student Council. School spirit is actually looking forward to school halfway through your summer holidays (well, maybe that's a little extreme... but you get the point?) Understanding the Importance of School Spirit School spirit can improve a student's commitment to education. This commitment can in turn act as a deterrent to negative behavior, such as dropping out of school. School spirit creates a positive learning environment for both students and teachers. And having a positive learning environment is one of the many things that make going to school so exciting. School spirit helps to develop and foster relationships among people. Can you remember what your school years were like? For me, (during the early years) school was all about reading time, coloring sheets, and recess. It was also about tests, report cards, and PTA meetings. As I got older school still involved tests, and report cards but it also involved school spirit skits and relationships. And in the end, that was what made going to school so exciting. It was friendships, and the bond that developed over the years. It was having teachers that poured their hearts out into students, day after day. It was graduating, into the "real" world knowing that I would cherish my school years for the rest of my life. So, are you starting to see the importance of school spirit? |
