Today has been such an awesome first day of school! I have already seen close to 100 kids today and I still have another whole period to go. I will first start off by saying how lucky we are...FRHS has some pretty amazing kids, and I am super excited about this year.
Today In Class:
Today in class, my students were given their syllabus for the entire year which outlined the expectations, rules and guidelines for the class. This syllabus needs to be signed by students and parents and turned in for 10 points by next Friday, August 30. If you haven't seen this from your student, be sure to check out the previous blog posting, as well as the "Student Stuff" link. The syllabus can be printed directly from my website!
Also today in class, students first watched a video entitled "A Pep Talk from Kid President to You." This video talked about "being awesome" and that we should set goals for ourselves, as well as treat others how we would like to be treated - although it's done in a cute and humorous way.
The video can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-gQLqv9f4o&list=PL632077778CF1BD66 and can also be viewed below.
After the video, students were given four index cards and were instructed to number each with a "1," "2," "3," or "4." These numbers represent each of the nine weeks here at FRHS. Each student was to write an individual goal for themselves for the end of the first, second, third and fourth nine weeks. Once the goals were written, the cards were placed in an envelope and sealed. At the end of each nine weeks, I will give the students back their goal card for the nine weeks and have them write a statement or two about their progress thus far; what they'd like to keep working on and what went well. I will be keeping the sealed envelopes until those times come!

Also in class today, students discussed the importance of themselves, and how one person can truly change the lives of others. We talked about having a great first year and hoping to make a difference in the lives of others!

All in all, it was a FANTASTIC first day back here at FRHS! We're all excited about what this year may and will bring to our students this year, especially those students who are in this year's ART classes.
Parents...DON'T FORGET, your student has a syllabus signature page that is due by FRIDAY, AUGUST 30 for 10 points in the grade book (this can already be seen in Progress Book).
Have a fabulous Wednesday, and as always, please contact me with any questions/comments/concerns!
Positively Purple,
Miss Everman
