Last Wednesday, April 24, sixty-three of our FRHS Art Club members attending a guided world tour and workshop at the Dayton Art Institute in Dayton, Ohio. Although it was a wet and rainy trip, our Art Club members were in great spirits (maybe because they were excited about the museum visit or they were out of school for the day, I'm not sure).
Our students were broken into groups of ten, and toured the museum with a docet as their guide. Students learned about artwork from across the world and it's countries including art from Africa, Japan, China, India, Greece, America, and the ever-famous art producer, Europe. Students were even able to see an original Claude Monet "Waterlily" painting from 1903, valued over $42 million.
Once we finished up our tours, students were taken upstairs in the museum to large studio-type classrooms. During our workshop, we created vessels (similar to that of a trophy, or a modern-day vase). Students worked vigourously for over an hour on their pieces and creations. Our instructors (former art teachers) informed me that our group was the best behaved and most artistic they've seen...EVER! How excited was I, their current art teacher, to hear that about a group of over sixty high school art students.
After our trip to the museum, we loaded up the buses and headed to Troy, Ohio, where students were able to pick from McDonald's, Taco Bell, Subway and Little Ceasar's for lunch. It was especially nice to be able to have lunch with my mom, as she was in Troy working for the day, and I was able to meet up with her!
Overall, we had a wonderful trip and a great experience at the Dayton Art Institute. Our students really art top-notch kids with great attitudes. Parents, you should all be very proud of your students!
Thank you to those who chaperoned our trip...Mrs. Grover, Mrs. Vaughn, Mrs. Bechtol and Mrs. Thien. Also, a huge thank you to Randy Wendel, our wonderful bus driver for our trip. Thank you all so much. We couldn't have had the experiences we had without you.
Until next time...keep creating!
